7th Annual Winners’ Circle BBQ Championship

Saturday, March 24, 2018 – Arcadia, CA

With the stunning San Gabriel Mountain range set as the backdrop and the thrill of thoroughbred horse races all afternoon, this is a BBQ contest like no other. Hearing the crowd of more than 14,000 cheering race (& BBQ) fans, as well as the sounds of the human and equine athletes, make this the most exciting BBQ contest ever. The 7th Annual Santa Anita Park Winners’ Circle BBQ competition is California’s second State Championship event scheduled for 2018. This contest is not JUST a BBQ festival, it’s a  Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) sanctioned four meat Championship Series event, a Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue (draw) an American Royal Invitational Qualifier, as well as a Team of the Year (ToY) event for KCBS.

Contest Basics

Contestants cook 4 meats:

• Chicken

• Pork Ribs

• Boston Pork Roast (Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt)

• Beef Brisket

Which may be cooked using heat sources of

• Wood

• Pellet

• Charcoal (Lump or Briquettes)

Entries are presented blindly to judges in (provided) 9″ x 9″ (Styrofoam to-go style) containers. They are judged on the following criteria:

• Appearance

• Tenderness

• Taste

Prizes

Guaranteed $15,000 CASH payout in this KCBS State BBQ Championship!

For each of the 4 meat categories the prize payout is as follows:

1st place – $600

2nd place – $500

3rd place – $450

4th place – $400

5th place – $350

6th place – $300

7th place – $250

8th place – $200

9th place – $150

10th place – $100

Each category payout = $3,300 x 4 categories = $13,200

Overall category:

Reserve Grand Champion – $600

Grand Champion – $1,200

Overall  category payout = $1,800

A completed W-9 form is required for us to issue ANY payments. We will also have them on site so as not to delay any payments.

On your contest entry form you will be asked to select an area (or zone) you wish to be in for the event.

We have 4 zones, as shown on the map below. Please note the judging is at the pin in the center of the map.

Zone 1 – Red shaded area, on the infield – this is the main event area. Teams interested in our MAK Grills People’s Choice contest should select this zone. Most teams on grass, remaining on smooth pavement. Power available to all sites. Please pay careful attention to vehicle size constraints outlined on the entry form.

Zone 2 – Blue shaded area, also on the infield – a quieter, more secluded (from public) area of the park. Most teams on grass, remaining on smooth pavement. Power available to all sites. Please pay careful attention to vehicle size constraints outlined on the entry form.

Zone 3 – Yellow shaded area, the Colorado Lot (not on the infield), to get to turn-in’s you will need to walk through the Colorado tunnel. Teams on parking lot asphalt. Generator power available to all sites. This zone does not have any vehicle size constraints. Load in & load out on YOUR schedule.

Zone 4 – Green shaded area, the Colorado Lot (not on the infield), to get to turn-in’s you will need to walk through the Colorado tunnel. Teams on parking lot asphalt. NO POWER provided in this zone, self-powered teams are welcomed! This zone does not have any vehicle size constraints. Load in & load out on YOUR schedule.
